New This Week at Laura’s Beads – February 15

Bead Circle Update

“Xs and Os Necklace” designed by Salli Rathburn
This necklace uses clever origami-like folds and hinges to take flat beadwork to a whole new dimension! Double triangle components enclose pearls just like hugs and kisses. We also like the occasional opportunity to finish stitched beadwork by incorporating stringing so that we can use some of the unique beads found around our shop that don’t often have a place in bead-weaving patterns.

Classes Newly Added to Calendar

New Date Added!  Specialty Class: Fused Glass
Every winter we are very excited to have Beth Cox, a glass expert from Michigan, visit our shop with all her supplies and creativity. Using pieces of stained glass, canes, millefiori, chips and more, you’ll cut, stack and glue to create custom pendants, pins, earrings, windchime dangles and more. The assembled pieces are kiln fired off-site and then returned to us within 2 weeks of class.

Important Note for Students who have taken this class previously: Like last year, we will again split the group so that you can begin working on your pieces immediately while the new students are given the orientation.

Intermediate Bead-Weaving SATURDAY Class: “Susie’s Serpentine Necklace” by Laura Cole of Laura’s Beads
This versatile and comfortable necklace is stitched using tubular herringbone with stations of various beads to create an slinky, undulating look. You’ll learn how to take your tubular herringbone to the next level by using “increases” or “stitch in the ditch” techniques to add those special beads.

Beginner Class:  Basic Kumihimo with Beads
Kumihimo is the ancient Japanese art of braid making. You’ll learn how to interlace strands of cording on a disc, while dropping beads into position. If you’ve never tried it before, we’re sure you’ll enjoy this very unique form of beading!
